Let things heal!

After the episode of having my thumb sutured and being removed of those sutures, the necrotic tissue started to peel off, like most wounds, the old skin tissues are slowly removed from the body and so a new stratum corneum could form over the thinly covered area. It could have worked well so far, but due to my hastiness to play the play station, I over rubbed my thumb on the controller and there it is, the supposedly new layer that was forming was nicked and I started bleeding all over. Luckily, I realized that I already did that and was able to wipe the mess with my shirt and coerce coagulation over the wound by applying pressure over it and slowly cleaning it. So the moral of the story, let your fresh wounds heal.
Though I hope that would apply to my love life as well! hahaha

The Sense of Justice and Political Will

Its been a while since I have watched the news on tv. But watching it makes my stomach lurch due to the sense of embarassment the Philippine Justice and Political system is in. In a sense, the verdict on the Erap's plunder case was good enough and the sentence enough for a former president. Imagine, you are at your own house waiting for the end of the days with all the luxury and comfort one could imagine. But why grant him pardon? Or give in to his ubsurd wishes of returning all the wealth that he have gained thru illegal means so why bother pleasing a man who was wrong? Isn't wrong? Or the current goverment due to new scandals that erupted in and about is trying to please the masses? Or is there another hidden agenda altogether now? It is really fascinating on how the Philippine goverment acts.

Of decerebrated toads and sutured thumb...

Well its almost a week since I last visited and updated my blog... Well it all started with this anyways
~~~~~~~~
In our exercise in animal behavior, we need to observe the spinal reactions of toads, namely a decerebrated toad, a pithed toad and a normal toad.
Well the first part was easy enough especially when you had earlier experience in beheading the toads the right way without destroying the brainstem. Well as expected, it jumps swims and reacts to almost anything. Well that was well.
In the second part, we need to improvise in cutting the leg of the toad since we don't have any glass knives in our lab since we never had anyway in the University. We need to use glass since it is electrically inert and stable, since we need the nerve intact with enough electric potential/electricity, so when teased it will enervate the muscle. Well cutting the leg shouldn't have been a problem since I already have experience with it, since we already did it in our animal physiology but... I used my left hand. I misjudged the pressure applied to the glass slide and there it broke in half. The other side of the slide sliced in a deep semicircular cut that gave rise to a bleeding thumb with a deep cut in the middle. It bled continously since an arteriole was severed along with some flesh and epidermis. I stopped the bleeding by applying direct pressure over it and covering it with clean cotton. Well I finished the lab class and requested to the professor that may I be taken to the infirmary where it could be treated since simple first aid couldn't stop the bleeding and I need to check if any broken glass got in. Fortunately there was no glass in it but it took me 5 stitches and a painful stab by the syringe to anesthesized my thumb. Well it looked like this after the operation, with necrotic tissue (the big black spot)
and the threads peeking out. It hurt a lot on that day and next day but somehow I managed to put my mind over matter and redirect my attention from it.
In the continuing days, nothing seems to fit and sound right but hopefully my exam in embryology does. And I hope, equivalent trade works for me.
Unique Artworks: Vandalisms on desks
In one of my quite boring class here in UP, I came early in class, extremely bored and undecided what to do. Since the aircon was running strong and the place was already cold, there was no point of blocking the path of air produced by the unit. So I walked around the chairs and chanced myself upon notable scribbles of other people and their artworks scribbled on desks of chairs. It is really amazing to see that UP students are really talented and many of which really desires to use the desks as their canvasses. Here are some examples of there nice artworks:
Another one here:
and another one:
I really liked the last pic coupled with the message.
It really proves that UP students are really multi-talented or the subject at hand is really boring! Haha.
